Guardian of Xylophone Tower

Allegretto standing before a tower guardian

"A trial is an insurmountable wall! A bitter struggle! I shall send you home in tears! Well then, shall we begin my trial? Listen, for I will play."
—Quartet, describing the supposedly intimidating nature of its trial.

The Xylophone Tower of the Shining Keys, often referred to as simply the Xylophone Tower, is a tower of trials within the Elegy of the Moon town in the World of Eternal Sonata. It contains a switch that can deactivate the barrier found in the Noise Dunes of Fantasy leading to the Double Reed Tower of Sand.

The party finds the Xylophone Tower within the Elegy of the Moon town, but is unable to enter without the Elder's permission. They travel to the Noise Dunes, only to find a barrier blocking the path to the Double Reed Tower where Count Waltz and the monstrous mutated form of Legato known as Ruined Body have fled. They speak with the Elder who, admiring their courage, gives them his permission to enter the Xylophone Tower.

Once in the tower, they discover that they must complete a series of trials in order to make their way to the top. The trials involve playing notes from Frédéric François Chopin's "Nocturne" on a keyboard. In the first two trials, the keys light up as an aid, but in the final trial, only the last four keys are lit up. The opening portion of the tune remains the same, however, so if the player either memorized or wrote down the initial notes, then they need only focus on those last four.

Upon reaching the summit, the party then battles the sentries of the tower. Once defeated, they are then able to access the switch which lowers the barrier in the Noise Dunes.

A xylophone is a percussion instrument developed in antiquity that is struck by mallets.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

  • In a normal playthrough, after breaking the seal on the Noise Dunes, Allegretto is automatically transported outside of the tower. In an Encore Mode playthrough, he remains where he is, but if the player acquired the Orb from the second trading sidequest, then they can use it to unlock a door and then open a treasure chest to obtain the valuable accessory Lion's Chime, at which point Allegretto will be transported out.
